North Conway, NH – The Berry Companies of North Conway, NH was granted conditional approval from the Town of Conway Planning Board at its December 8 meeting for its redevelopment plan for Norcross Place in the heart of North Conway Village.

“Norcross Place’s growth is a key part of our organization’s plan to enhance North Conway Village by adding locally-owned eateries and nightlife,” says Alec Tarberry, Senior Vice President of the Berry Companies. “The vision for Norcross Place is to restore the building exterior and bring it back to its roots as a classic White Mountain lodge, and restructure the interior to be a multi-level dining and entertainment space with a roof deck.” The space was the former long-time home of Olympia Sports.

This newly imagined space will help satisfy the critical need for entertainment, dining, and nightlife in North Conway Village. The enterprise will look to partner with Mt. Washington Valley community-based food and beverage businesses, continuing the Berry Companies’ mission to support locally owned and operated businesses.

The site has very deep roots in the community, as it was home to the famed Carroll Reed Ski Shop for decades. Reed opened the first Ski School in the Mt. Washington Valley in 1936 and was a principal in the growth of skiing in North America along with the famed Hannes Schneider and Harvey Dow Gibson. Gibson purchased the Eastern Slope Inn in 1937 and set out to turn Cranmore Mountain into a premier ski destination. Joe Berry, founder, and CEO of the Berry Companies purchased the Eastern Slope Inn in 1980; he subsequently purchased Norcross Place in 1995.

“Both Carroll Reed and Joe Berry’s legacy in the evolution of North Conway will be fulfilled in the redevelopment of this building,” says Tarberry.

Berry Companies has engaged Joe The Architect of Somerville, Massachusetts & HEB Engineers of North Conway to meet the requirements necessary to begin construction on the building, expected to begin in early 2023. “We are especially thankful for the work of Sheila A. Duane, Leasing and Development Project Manager at Berry Companies, as her tireless efforts have made this project possible.”
