Berry Companies, a real estate and hospitality firm based in North Conway, NH, is excited to announce the three local businesses opening at Norcross Place in North Conway Village: Cheese Louise of Conway, Sap House Meadery of Ossipee, and Saco River Brewing Company of Fryeburg, ME.

Each of these three businesses was born in the Mount Washington Valley and brings its own unique story to this historic property. Most importantly, each of these businesses is 100% locally owned and brings a dining and entertainment offering that does not yet exist in North Conway Village.

The location at 2686 White Mountain Highway has deep roots in the community, as it was home to the famed Carroll Reed Ski Shop for decades. Reed opened the first Ski School in the Mt. Washington Valley in 1936 and was a principal in the growth of skiing in North America along with the famed Hannes Schneider and Harvey Dow Gibson. Gibson purchased the Eastern Slope Inn in 1937 and set out to turn Cranmore Mountain into a premier ski destination. Joe Berry, founder and CEO of the Berry Companies purchased the Eastern Slope Inn in 1980; he subsequently purchased Norcross Place in 1995.

Cheese Louise started in 2018, born out of a leap of faith from three college students raised in the MWV who were reluctant to take on “real” jobs after graduation. The business grew in an unplanned way into something far more important than any of the three had originally imagined. Now with locations in Conway, Portsmouth, Portland, ME, and multiple food trucks, Cheese Louise is on a mission to bring their delectable food to North Conway Village at Norcross Place.

Sap House Meadery opened in 2011 with two missions: to help revitalize the owners’ hometown of Ossipee, and to reimagine what mead could be. Twelve years later, the company produces some of the most innovative and sought-after meads in the industry spanning everything from wild-foraged ingredients to single-varietal honey and an extensive barrel-aging program. Sap House meads can be found in stores and restaurants across the Northeast.

Saco River Brewing began in 2017 in neighboring Fryeburg, ME, and has been a local staple for delectable craft beer since its inception. Led by Founder and Head Brewer Mason Irish of Conway, this formerly modest operation now produces beers that can now be found in stores across the region and is a must-try for beer lovers in the MWV. The company is passionate about giving back to the community, often donating proceeds of the sales of its unique brews toward local non-profits & causes.

“We are thrilled to announce these amazing local businesses are coming to North Conway Village”, says Alec Tarberry, Berry Companies President. “We have chosen these partners as part of our commitment to keeping the village a unique place occupied by locally-owned businesses. Our goal is to create a place for the next generation of locals and visitors to gather so that the valley is a place that young people want to be.”

Cheese Louise, Sap House Meadery and Saco River Brewing Company are scheduled to open their doors later this year. Ribbon cuttings for each of these openings will be announced in advance to the community. Stay updated on this development and other Berry Companies news at berry-cos.com.
